Project Description
Matting and Grass System with Vetiver Grass
Many smaller eroded slopes are present along Oahu’s highways. These slopes are typically repaired by applying a coating of grass seed and mulch, then protecting it with erosion control matting which holds the mulch and grass seed in place during its initial sprouting and growing period. As the new grass grows through the matting, it is obscured from view but remains in place to supplement the natural erosion protection provided by the grass. This site was also planted with several rows of vetiver grass, which grows quickly and can tolerate significant water flow because of its stiff and erect stems, providing an additional layer of erosion protection.
