We are excited to announce that AAH-034, Paradise Crew, Iron Order MC, is Oahu District’s Third Quarter 2022 Adopt-A-Highway Champion. As of August 2022, the group had conducted six events, collecting over 55 bags of trash along the two to four-mile section of Kunia Road.
The well-travelled, yet rural stretch of highway has attracted a fair amount of trash along with abandoned vehicles and parts over the years. Fortunately, Paradise Crew, in addition to picking up the smaller piece trash, makes a big effort to address bulky items along their route as well. The group believes that signs of civil disorder and unsightliness, such as trash from littering, create an environment that encourages similar activity. On the other hand, a clean highway discourages dumping by letting everyone know that littering is unacceptable.
“We are proud to be among the various organizations who make the effort to contribute to our community this way,” said Paradise Crew Chairperson Scott Folsom. “Attending to our highways provides a clean environment, gives civic pride to the community, serves as a reminder not to litter, and saves taxpayers money. We know people are busy, but we’d like to encourage everyone to make the effort to give back to our community in whatever way they can. Even small efforts add up, and our whole island can benefit.”
Iron Order MC is a nationwide, community-minded organization. The Paradise Crew Hawaii Chapter is comprised of military members, some of whom are only here for a few years, with others who are permanent residents. Despite the length of each member’s tenure, all are committed to maintaining and giving back to the community and our ‘aina.
