Compared to other states across the nation, water conservation has been a prevalent practice throughout Hawaii’s history in which residents are encouraged to proactively conserve our island’s natural resources.
From cleaning dishes, taking showers, and flushing toilets, our daily tasks add up and can result in many gallons of water being used every month. Conserving water starts in the home and will not only help to lower utility costs but will also assist in the reduction of pollutants and trash entering our environment.
Here are a few tips for conserving water in your home:
Never allow the water to run while brushing your teeth.
Take shorter showers whenever possible.
If you wash your dishes by hand, fill one side of the sink with fresh water and use it for rinsing when the dishes are scrubbed clean rather than rinsing each item.
Check and repair parts inside of your toilet tank. Worn-out pieces or chains can cause the toilet to run unnecessarily.
Repair leaking shower faucets and valves.
When washing your hands, turn off the sink while lathering your hands with soap.
